Commemorative Services

Self-Realization Fellowship temples and centers throughout the world observe the following occasions each year with a special commemorative ceremony to the Guru that is being honored.

* Mahasamadhi meaning - Sanskrit maha, “great,” samadhi. The last meditation, or conscious communion with God, during which a perfected master merges himself in the cosmic Aum and casts off the physical body. A master invariably knows beforehand the time God has appointed for him to leave his bodily residence.
*Janmashtami celebrates the birth (Janma) of Krishna on the eighth day (Ashtami) in the month of Shravan (August-September).
